WRAL-TV Live Call-in for College Admissions and Financial Aid

WRAL-TV will be hosting a live call-in event to provide college admissions and financial aid information.  Financial aid and admissions volunteers from all around the state will be available to take telephone calls from students, parents, school counselors, or anyone needing information on navigating the college planning and paying process.

Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. financial aid and college admissions professionals will take calls and provide information on college admissions and financial aid to help students and parents understand the process and access resources needed to plan, apply, and pay for education beyond high school.

This is a great opportunity for your students and parents to get the information they need to continue their education.

College Application Fee Waivers

Every senior who takes the SAT or SAT Subject Tests using a fee waiver will receive four college application fee waivers directly from the College Board. Eligible students can use them to apply to any of the over 2,000 participating colleges. This initiative is made possible thanks to the commitment of colleges across the country to ensure that application fees are not a barrier, and fee waivers are an important part of our efforts to propel low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students into the educational opportunities they have earned.

How Students Access Their Fee Waivers Online

Eligible seniors will access their college application fee waivers via their College Board online accounts by visiting collegeboard.org/mysat.

Once students log in, they will see a message titled Apply to college for free with a link to where they can print their college application fee waivers, search for colleges that accept the waivers, and review submission instructions specific to each school. 

College Application Fee-Waiver Distribution

Because students who take the SAT using a fee waiver have already had their eligibility verified by their counselor, college application fee waivers do not require additional counselor approval. Here is how it will work for different populations of students:

• Seniors who tested during previous academic years will receive their fee waivers online by July.
• Seniors testing for the first time will receive their fee waivers at the same time they receive their SAT test scores — typically 19 days after the test date.
• Juniors who test with an SAT fee waiver will receive fee waivers at the beginning of their senior year.
• Students will be able to access their college application fee waivers up through one year after graduation from high school (note: fee waivers can only be used for first year college admissions and not transer admissions).

Student Eligibility Conditions

These are the student eligibility conditions for use of college application fee waivers from the College Board:

• The student meets one or more of the eligibility criteria for using an SAT fee waiver and may use up to four college application fee waivers from the College Board.
• The student has taken at least one SAT or SAT Subject Test with a fee waiver, or has taken an SAT that was paid for by his or her state or school district

Terms of Use

Student may use up to four college application fee waivers from the College Board.

Participating colleges have agreed to consider waiving their application fees. Colleges may have specific fee-waiver policies or criteria, and they retain the final decision on whether to waive the application fee. College application fee-waivers should not be used for applications to colleges that are not listed in the directory.

College application fee waivers are not intended for waiver of test fees for either the SAT or SAT Subject Tests.

Attention Super Seniors

We will have 3 guest speakers during class on Friday, October 9th.  Please make sure you give them your attention.  Texting, eating, and talking during the presentations is disrespectful and unacceptable.  There will be a reflection due after each presentation.

The October 16th class will be devoted to scholarships.  There will be a great deal of information covered about how to find and apply for scholarships.  An assignment will be due at the end of class. Remember, you are required to apply for at least 4 scholarships.

Super Seniors will schedule classes for Spring, 2016 semester in class on October 23, 2015.  Mrs. Battle will have the NCC schedule and you will select your college courses.  We want you to have this experience because you will have to self select classes when attending a 4-year university next year.  Please inform your parents of this and remind them of the form they signed at the beginning of the semester, which served to make them aware of what college classes you have left.

Super Seniors will take casual pictures on October 23, 2015.

Graduation Services will be here on October 30, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Super Seniors, this will be your opportunity to purchase your cap and gown, senior memorabilia, graduation invitations, etc.

High School Seniors will receive an immediate admissions decision at the event and are automatically considered for merit scholarships (if eligible). 
Note: The initial review process for scholarships begins in December.
All high school students, parents, and counselors are welcome to attend the information session.

High School seniors need to bring the following information to participate in the on-site admissions process:

1. Please apply online at https://hunet.hamptonu.edu/prod/bwskalog.P_DispLoginNon, print the Signature Page & bring it with you to the on-site
2. Application fee of $35.00 (non-refundable). Only cashier's check or money order accepted.
3. A copy of your social security card (for Federal Financial Aid verification).
4. Standardized Test Results ACT or SAT scores Note: ACT/SAT scores submission is optional for students with at least a 3.3 cumulative academic GPA or who rank in the top 10 percent of their class, but mandatory for all students wishing to be considered for merit scholarships.
5. OFFICIAL high school transcript Note: Wake County Public Schools students may bring an unofficial transcript to the on-site as long as the official transcript is sent to the school.
6. One (1) letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor or teacher
7. An autobiographical essay/personal statement
