  1. I learned that the federal government proves over $150 billion of financial aid money to students every year. I didn't know that there is a tool you can use online to automatically pull information from tax records to the FAFSA form. Our state is one of the few states that awards money on a first come-first serve basis so it is important to file for aid ASAP

  2. People who are considered part of your household are the ones your parents provide for half of their needs/support. North Carolina awards aid money on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are depleted. There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't apply for FASFA even if your families income is high. Also the best way to complete FASFA is early and online.

  3. 1. I found out that usually if a student was born before January 1, 1991 then they are most likely a dependent student.

    2. Students can appeal for a better financial aid package if your financial predicament has varied in any way since the initial filing.

    3. Make sure you double and triple check your answers on the FAFSA form to insure the most accurate answers are provided to insure maximum financial aid offers.

  4. 1. Students must file for FASFA every year he/she is in school to be considered for federal student aid.
    2. Lying about assets or your income on FASFA is a crime. It can cost you up to $20,000 in fines or even imprisonment.
    3. If you apply to FASFA online, your application is processed faster and accurately. FASFA is also better to file online because it catches common errors.

  6. -If you haven’t done your taxes by the time you complete the FAFSA, you can estimate amounts based on the previous year if nothing has drastically changed.
    -After a college has sent you a financial aid package, there’s still an opportunity to negotiate a better aid award with the school.
    -Making mistakes on your FAFSA could delay your application and possibly make you lose out on some financial aid.

    2. If you are not sure that you would get financial aid, file anyway.
    3. Fill out all areas to the best of your knowledge, do not provide false information, and do not skip any areas.

  8. You're considered dependent if your parents cover at least 50% of all of your financial needs. If any extenuating circumstances exist while you're filing FAFSA it doesn't hurt to notify them of such. Online applications are processed faster, in fact early online applications are processed fastest.

  9. I learned that you must for FAFSA each year you are going to to school, lying about your taxes to FAFSA can get you in serious trouble l, and FAFSA is first come first serve, so it is best to get it done early.

  10. Fafsa has to be completed each year to be considered for financial aid. Seven states including North Carolina give financial on a first come basis until funds have been depleted. If you apply online your application is more likely to get processed faster and be more accurate.

    2) Fafsfa assumes you can spend 20% of your assets.
    3) Taxes need to be done before completing fafsfa because the info is needed to complete applications.

  13. Article 1: You don't have to wait to file taxes when you submit your FAFSA. You can put in estimates now and fix it later.

    Article 2: Keeping child savings in a 529 account keeps the money from being put into consideration for FAFSA monies.

    Article 3: There are a lot of fields in the FAFSA that, when filled with the wrong information, can hinder the processing time of your FAFSA.

    2) Lying about your income or assets on the FAFSA is a form of fraud punishable by a fine up to $20,000, forfeiture of financial aid awards, and potential prison time.
    3) entering the wrong federal income tax paid amount–obtain your federal income paid amount from your income tax return forms, not your W-2 form(s)
