1. In the first article I learned that one in four college students have a diagnosable illness but only 60% of those students seek help. I never thought of it but I find this to be very true when actually thinking about it. When going of to college we're going through many changes in our lives all at once. Many of us have a full time school load with work pilled on top of that. This can bring a lot of stress and breakdowns to some people.

That's crazy to me because I could never imagine killing myself, but I guess some college students feel so dragged down and overwhelmed that they feel death would solve the problem.
3. In the third article I learned that eight out of ten college students experienced stress in the previous three months. I also believe this to be very true for statements above I have already explained. Not only do students have to worry about going to college, once they're there they have to worry about how they're going to actually pay for college. All of these things mixed in can be very emotionally troubling to some people. I also learned that some symptoms of an anxiety disorder are trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, and difficulty concentrating.
1. I learned that a lot of mental illness happen to those who are in college. With the new changes that one goes through from leaving home and being in a new environment can cause much stress and feel of loneliness. Many student do not often seek the help that is there and around campus.

3. In the third article, I learned that the symptoms of stress are increased heart rate, upset stomach, dry mouth and other things. Three ways that could decrease stress is nutrition, relaxation techniques, and physical fitness.

1. Social Anxiety Disorder is where one cannot function properly in everyday interactions without a certain fear, or embarrassment. I thought this was just in a generalized statement, not to the point where it was its own disorder. It can occur and make it an issue when visiting or living on a new campus and they have places on campus that are affordable for students that can help cure this.

3. A lot of college students don't ever admit to having a eating disorder because they are embarrassed, have a lack of information, or not realizing they have a problem. These eating disorders can come from going class to class or rushing all the time and eating without notice of how much has been taken in.

ReplyDeleteWow. Really? I didn't know this. I would like to see some sources cited here for sure, this is an unbelievable bit of information.
2. Apparently everyone has anxiety and it can be cured by talking. Again with the lack of sources for this. What high school did these experts go to? They are terrible at citing.
3. Something has changed so drastically in the past few decades that a much larger proportion of today's young people are killing themselves than the young people of 10 years ago. But the solution isn't in changing the way society or even the school system works. The only clear solution is articles and "talking." I'm glad we've solved that problem. Whew.
A lot of students feel depressed and sufer from some forms of mental illness during their stay at college. Many students contemplate suicide because of this. People have a lot of outlets to help them during this time in college to overcome these obstacles.

The second leading cause of death on college is suicide.before reading this article and going through this semester i would have thought it was a bunch of bologana but to see how hard it is to do all of the thing we try to juggle can be stressful.
ReplyDeleteI can also see the thing anout the earing disorders because most of us are so use to being home and habing mom do it for us. Plus nowadays people are so picky so theay not eat the food provided. Or they just get so busy that they just do not eat ,or even just try to keep an image.
The great thing Bout these articles id that help is available for many things especially depression cause i think thats the main cuase of all the illnesses.
