One obstacle that I had to overcome since starting 9th grade has been balancing my school work and my social life. Being homeschooled, I didn't know anyone coming to the early college and I worried about it a lot before and during 9th grade. I have made a ton of friends at school but ultimately, school is what is most important to me because my entire future rests on what I do in class now.
One obstacle that I had to overcome is PROCRASTINATION !!!!!!!!!!!!! That thing is of the devil, seriously. All throughout my high school career it has been a struggle to do things when they are assigned instead of waiting until the last minute. I use to use the excuse "I do my best work under pressure" but when my grades started to drop I knew something had to change. I still have my moments where I wait last minute but majority of my work, especially major assignments, I do at the earliest convenience. When I complete work on time it relieves so much stress and pressure off of me. I am glad that I tackled this issue before leaving for big college because this is not a healthy habit that should continue.
My biggest obstacle to overcome was allowing myself to be open with people. Since moving here in 8th grade I didn't want to be open to new people or things because I had spent most of my life in another place with other people.
Naturally I feel like I should say procrastination because it was my obstacle, but the truth is I haven't overcome it and I'm still working on it. So the next personal obstacle that I have indeed overcome since 9th grade would have to be becoming more outspoken and noticeable. All throughout middle school I never wanted to do anything to get me noticed or heard and most of the time people forgot that I was in their classes (which still happens sometimes), but I believe that I have gradually grown. I may not be well known or consumed with a lot of friends, but I bet that people don't look lost if my name is mentioned and I'll go as far to say that most know at least one thing about me; rather they heard it or they know it for sure. Of course I have more work to do.
The biggest obstacle that I have overcome was studying. For the longest time I never had to study and I could still do well on tests, but now I have to put effort into my classes if I want to succeed.
One personal obstacle that I've had to overcome since starting 9th grade has been actually caring about school, if that makes sense. I would just show up and joke around not taking none of my classes serious . I never knew what classes to take nor how many credits i had left ect. Over time though I started caring about my classes and ECHS.
From Emily V - Being able to balance school and my personal life has and still is an obstacle for me. School consists of studying and time, and in some cases I can't participate in some personal activities.
The obstacle I've had to overcome and still sometimes struggle with is my ego. Sometimes because I think too highly of myself or too lowly of a situation I find myself in I'm hesitant to ask for help and end up having to struggle ten fold when I could have just received help when I knew and very obviously needed it.
I had to overcome my shyness and instability around others. I got over it during 9th and 10th grade and it has really helped my to become more of an outgoing and social person. I'm still a little too reserved for my own good, but I'm doing better.
