AVID IV - Week of August 24-28, 2015

What should I be doing this week for AVID IV?
  1. Register for SAT/ACT if applicable.  See board outside of Mrs. Taylor's office for registration   deadlines.
  2. Update your CFNC profile.  (Due by 8/28/15) Remember, CFNC will send your transcript electronically to colleges that you are applying to.  A CFNC representative will speak to our AVID IV class on August 28. 
  3. Familiarize yourself with the Transcript Manager on CFNC - NC schools will get your transcripts sent electronically.

  4. Investigate to see if you qualify for a Collegeboard Application Waiver and if your schools of choice accept waviers:

    This will be important to know when we start applying to colleges next month.  If you have not completed a free lunch application, please do so if you are interested in waivers!

AVID IV-Week of August 17-21, 2015

Happy First Week of College Courses!!!

What should I be doing this week for AVID IV?

  1. Have your parents complete all forms that I gave you in AVID IV last Friday. (Due 8/21/15)
  2. Complete the orange 5 Year Personal Student AVID Data form.  (Due by 8/21/15).  We will need this for our personal one-on-one planning meetings on Friday, August 21st.  
  3. Complete Free & Reduced Meal Application Packet if you are interested in wavier forms for SAT/ACT registration fee.
  4. Register for SAT/ACT if applicable.  See board outside of Mrs. Taylor's office for registration   deadlines.
  5. Update your CFNC profile.  (Due by 8/28/15) Remember, CFNC will send your transcript electronically to colleges that you are applying to.  A CFNC representative will speak to our AVID IV class on August 28. 
  6. Use the results from your interest inventory to begin researching colleges/universities that you    want to apply to.
  7. Complete the AVID Questionnaire. (Due by 8/19/15)

Applying to College - Month by Month - Summer/August 2015

·        Register for the September/October ACT/SAT if applicable. Send your scores to your Colleges/Universities! You should have already taken it at least once and/or signed up for it for this semester.  You will be applying to college in October, 2015 and ALL scores need to be sent to schools by then.

·        Come up with a preliminary list of colleges that interest you.  
·        Explore the websites of the colleges that interest you to learn about admissions requirements 
·        Check your senior year class schedule to make sure you are taking the right English, Math, Social Studies, Science and Foreign Language classes you will need for HS Graduation 
·        Update your profile on the College Foundation of North Carolina website (www.cfnc.org) On  this website you can send North Carolina colleges an application and transcripts. 
·        Begin thinking about potential topics for your personal essay. 

·        Visit college campuses and interview with college admissions representatives.

First AVID IV CLASS 2015-16

Hello Super Seniors!

I'm Mrs. Taylor, your new school counselor and your AVID IV teacher.  I have been a counselor for 14 years. I'm so excited to be at Early College High School.  I am married to David and I have two children, ages 11 and 21! My oldest daughter is a junior at North Carolina State University--so...I have firsthand experience with teaching you how to apply to college, obtain financial aid and scholarships, and successfully manage your Super Senior school year!  I love my students and can't wait to see all of the success stories that will come out of this year's class.

The first AVID IV class is scheduled for August 14, 2015 at 12:00 p.m in room 2101. Dr. Carver, President of Nash Community College, will be speaking to our class promptly at 12:00 p.m.  Please be on time!

If you have not already done so, please log into Web Advisor, go to student forms and complete the student laptop form.  After completing the form, you can pick up laptops starting today Monday, August 10th at the Nash CC library.
