The two tips that I have learned about writing a college essay were to be cautious of your tone and how you reveal your character on paper. Tone is very important because it can tell the college that you are either very interested in the school and the opportunity, a tooter of your own horn, or not really interested at all; just doing just because. With all this in mind, its very hard to execute this in words on a peace a paper, especially when you really are interested but don't know how to say it correctly. Also, how you reveal your character through your essay is very, very important because not only is the admissions office looking for academic achievement but for the active service to the community. If you show excellence in serving the community then that means that you are willing to do the same on the college campus, which also means that service can put above those who have the brains with no service. These two tips, to me, are the most important and most stressful because they sometimes make me doubt myself and over-think it.
Tips I learned from writing college essays is to answer the topic and stay on track. I was would put more fluff in the paper rather than get to the point. Fluff is good when relevant but too much can kill your essay. Stay on track when writing college essays. And proof reading is a must!

Another tip is to prep over the topic. Don't just start and then upload it. Take your time to create an intro, body, and conclusion (if that is what they ask for).
Be honest. Don't embellish your achievements, titles, and offices. It's just fine to be the copy editor of the newspaper or the treasurer of the Green Club, instead of the president. Not everyone has to be the star at everything. You will feel better if you don't strain to inflate yourself.
Don’t rely on phrases or ideas that people have used many times before. These could include statements like, “There is so much suffering in the world that I feel I have to help people.” Avoid overly formal or business-like language, and don’t use unnecessary words.
One tip to writing your essay is to stay focused on your topic. Another tip is when your finish writing your essay put it away for a day and then look over it and see if it makes sense and look for errors that way its fresh on your mind. You can also get a friend to read over your essay.
Writing the essays for some of these colleges is really hard. This is evident when I see tips like, "Don't Babble, Be Likable," and "Be Honest." It's really hard to be yourself when you are applying to the college you've always wanted to be in. I myself have found that I ramble and talk nonsense when I write an essay about my intended profession, so I end up rewriting it multiple times. I'm doing that now, in fact. Wasn't I supposed to comment on two tips for writing a college essay? I actually put three instead. Man, this is hard! =#

Two tips that I have noticed were, one being that you have to allow enough time to plan. Although this is the most obvious one, a lot of people like myself don't take the time out of the day to actually schedule it so instead you place other obligations in front of it. Instead, if I just set aside maybe 2 hours every other day to update my profiles and answer a couple of questions, my process for applying to college would be a lot easier and faster. The other tip which corresponds with the first tip is to submit applications one or two weeks in advance. Besides the obvious that you want to make sure you turn it in on time, this allows you to not worry about computer malfunctions or being sick which would prevent you from turning it in if you are as last minute as I am.
